CAMERON RAE

Cameron embarked on his journey to become a stonemason at the age of eighteen. He began his apprenticeship on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. Over the next four years he worked on site as part of a team building quality stone homes, garden walls, entrances and large commercial projects in all styles and materials. At the same time, he studied on a block release basis at the prestigious Elgin Cathedral training facility. After completing his first two years of standard training, Cameron was invited by the college to participate in an extra year of study to complete his advanced craft certificate. During Cameron's apprenticeship he also studied the conservation and repair of failing ancient masonry and qualified in the National Progression Award in the conservation of masonry at Glasgow Metropolitan College.
Once Cameron's apprenticeship was complete, he continued his development by working for Historic Scotland in their Dumfries and Galloway division where he helped maintain thirteen different monuments ranging from castles, abbeys and tower houses, dating from as early as the fourteenth century.
In 2012, Cameron arrived in Melbourne and was quickly sponsored by a landscaping company that specialized in high end landscape construction and stonemasonry. Throughout this time he continued to absorb his craft and learned the different types of construction methods and materials employed in Australia. During these four years, he successfully trained many apprentices.
Cameron then moved on to become a manager at one of Melbourne's leading stonemasonry firms. For the next year he continued to train others while furthering his own skillset on a very challenging project that involved selecting and building with stone quarried on site.
In 2017, Cameron set up Keystone Masonry.
